Founded in 1999, the Coop la Maison Verte is a solidarity cooperative that offers a wide range of high quality, environmentally friendly and fair trade items, as well as resources for responsible consumption.

Firmly rooted in the community with some 7300 members, the coop is an important showcase for many small producers in Québec. In addition to selling products, it organizes a variety of events and activities in response to the interests of its target clientele, heightening its visibility. With the help of funding institutions such as the Fiducie du Chantier, the RISQ, Investissement Québec, and the Caisse d'économie solidaire Desjardins, and with the support of its members, the coop was able to purchase the building at 5785 Sherbrooke St W. and to plan renovations, with a budget of $659,586. The CDN/NDG CDEC contributed $75,000 from the Social Economy Fund. The planned renovations are normal ones for a building dating back to 1920 and include work on electrical wiring, plumbing, windows, doors, the roof, ceiling and emergency exits.
