For the "I'm active in NDG" campaign, Notre-Dame-de-Grâce residents are invited to pick up a participation coupon from one of the almost 150 businesses on Sherbrooke Street West and Monkland and Somerled avenues identified by the "I'm active in NDG" logo displayed on their windows.
The participation coupon has spaces for you to choose your five favourite businesses, by entering their identification codes, and for the merchants to validate that you used a form of active (walking, biking, jogging, etc.) or collective (public transit) transportation to get there. You must also make two commitments to buy locally using active and/or collective transportation from among the following: making everyday purchases in your neighbourhood at least three times a week; discovering at least five new businesses in your neighbourhood; walking or biking to get around the neighbourhood at least three times a week; or using a bicycle, public transit or carpooling to get to work at least once a week. Residents can drop off their participation coupon in contest boxes at the CDN/NDG CDEC, the Caisse Populaire Desjardins de Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, the NDG Éco-quartier and the following businesses: Ben & Jerry's Monkland, À votre santé and Coop La Maison Verte.
The contest will run from Saturday, June 6, 2009 to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 25, 2009. The Caisse Populaire Desjardins de Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, the contest's main sponsor, is providing the "Active Citizen Caisse Populaire Desjardins de Notre-Dame-de-Grâce" grand prize of a bicycle, a rain jacket and bicycle accessories, of a total value of $1000. A dozen businesses on the three commercial arteries are offering gift certificates, including Poissonnerie Sherbrooke, Ben & Jerry's Monkland, Taloma, Coop La Maison Verte, Fleur Sauvage, Le Maître Boucher, the Monkland Tavern, Scrapbook Star and Tricot Quartier. The names of the winners will be revealed in the Monitor online and Actualités Côte-des-Neiges/Notre-Dame-de-Grâce in October. The winners will be contacted by the organizers the "I'm active in NDG" campaign, and the prizes can be claimed at the offices of the Côte-des-Neiges/Notre-Dame-de-Grâce CDEC, also in October.
Participating merchants will be promoting active and collective transportation to their clientele, and the five designated as "favourites" by the greatest number of residents will be highlighted in the Monitor and Actualités. So get active in your neighbourhood and choose the businesses you consider as the best and "greenest" in NDG! |
